Jerry Russell Shafer, 80 of Marietta, Ohio died on October 12, 2026 at The Arbors in Marietta. He was born January 24, 1946 in Carbondale, WV and was the son of the late Clifton and Katherine Anderson Shafer. He had been a mechanic for the BP Petroleum Co. He was a member of the Moose Club in Marietta where he had been President. He enjoyed hunting for ginsing, playing poker, an Ohio State Buckeye fan, a West Virginia Mountaineer fan and had played football, baseball in high school and had also played softball.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Louise Sampson Shafer, daughter, Lisa Ann Amrine of Marietta, Ohio, a daughter, Karen Deion Seevers of Lowell, Ohio, grandchildren, Tyler (Carrington) Amrine, Derek Amrine, Bailey (Cody) Paige, Jaron (Olivia) Seevers, 2 great grandchildren, Steven Rhett Paige, and Walter Cal Seevers. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Jack Shafer, Johnny Shafer, Sheila Brown and Marilyn Jennings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Teresa Marie Shafer, two sisters, Edna Koch, and Janet, and a brother, Steve Shaffer.
Memorial Services will be held 12 p.m. Thursday October 15th 2026, at Freedom Gate Church of Marietta Ohio, with Pastor Rodney Lord officiating.
