Wanda Ilene Sheppard, 92, of Parkersburg, WV, was released from the bonds of dementia and entered into her heavenly home on August 2, 2026. She passed away at Cedar Grove Personal Care Home, where she had been a resident since November 2024. Prior to that, she lived with her daughter and her husband for six years.

She was born in Palestine, WV, a daughter of the late Roy James and Ona McClung.

Wanda’s life was caring for her family. Humble living-satisfied with simple things in life-family vacations were weekend camping trips, sewing, feeding birds, gardening, and canning. She was the oldest member of Big Tygart United Methodist Church. Wanda loved going to church and did so as long as she could. She loved singing hymns and Sang in a gospel quartet for a while. Wanda played the bass drum in the Wirt County marching band and graduated from Wirt County High.

She was survived by her two children, David Sheppard (Mary) of Mineral Wells and Carol Hall (Thomas) of Walker, WV; five grandchildren, Christina, James, Janey, Beth, and Courtney; 10 great-grandchildren, Talia, Nicholas, Zack, Joy, Jocelyn, Allison, Elizabeth, Contessa, Sage, and Arthur; two great-great-grandchildren, Ronan and Ruth, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Sheppard; three sisters, Cora Thompson, Ruby Deem, and Deane Grant; four brothers, Forest, Harold, Gene, and John McClung.

Service will be 2:00 AM Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
