Gerald Edwin Rose, age 82, died peacefully on March 25, 2026, after a long illness. His loving wife, Ruth (Filipow) Rose survives him, as well as three children, David (Melinda) Rose, Dana Rose, and Diane Rose, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Harry (Carol Sue) Rose, and sisters Darlene (Hale) Maze, and Karen (Elmer) Messer. Gerald was born on June 2, 1943, in Marr, Ohio, to David and Edra Rose, in the family farmhouse on Little Injun Road. He was baptized into Christ as a member of the Creighton Ridge Church of Christ. Gerald graduated from Skyview High School, in Stafford Ohio, in 1961, after which he served his country honorably in the Ohio National Guard. Gerald married Ruth Louise Fillipow on August 20, 1966, in Cooperstown Pennsylvania. They were married for 59 years and raised their family in Vincent, Ohio. Gerald began his life-long career with DuPont in 1966, retiring in 2002 after 35 years. He was a member and an Elder at Little Hocking Church of Christ. In retirement, Gerald remained active as a dedicated member of Barlow Vincent Church of Christ, as a Poll Worker, as co-owner of Rose’s Gardens with Ruth, hybridizing and selling beautiful daylilies and hostas, and working for his son, Dana (ESOR Engineering), building patent-protected chip testing devices.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at Leavitt Funeral Home, 801 Victor St, Belpre, Ohio. Funeral service to be held on Saturday, March 28, at 2pm at Barlow Vincent Church of Christ, 6429 OH-339, Vincent, OH, preceded by a viewing starting at 1pm. Interment at Creighton Ridge Church of Christ, Marr, Ohio, on Monday, March 30, at 1pm. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Kelli Cawley, of Belpre, Ohio, for her dedicated care and compassion throughout Gerald’s illness.
