Mary Seville Brast Showalter Obituary
January 8, 1925 – March 17, 2026
Mass of Catholic Burial will be held for Mary S. Brast Showalter at 11:00 a.m. St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Monday, March 23, 2026, with Fr. John Rice, Celebrant and Steven Wharton, Deacon. The gravesite service will be held at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 4-6pm at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with a rosary service at 6pm.
Mary Seville Brast Showalter of Parkersburg went to her Eternal glory on March 17, 2026, at her home at Love and Care Assisted Living at the age of 101. Mary lived a very good life. She was such a special, witty, patient lady. Mary was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother “Mamie”, aunt and cousin. She married widower, George C. Showalter, in 1970 Wheeling WV. She was blessed and welcomed into his large family, 3 stepchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 38 great-great grandchildren. She spoke fondly of them and loved all of them very much.
Mary made her career and retired from G.E. Aerospace, Accounting Dept. She is proud to have been the 4th and last generation lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society (former president). Mary also served as the Organist/Choir Director and was active in her parish. Mary was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, 1942. She loved spending time with her East and West coast families, daily crossword puzzles, playing dominos and watching sports, especially baseball.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband George C. Showalter, her father William M. Brast, Sr. mother Esther F. (Murphy) Brast, her only sibling, brother William M. Brast, Jr. (Novella), nephew William Mark Brast, special cousin Mary K. “Kitty” Brown. Her stepdaughters Josephine Canary (Ed), Jennie Stephenson (Henry).
Mary is survived by her nephews Mike Brast (Laurie) and Matt Brast (Robbin), nieces Mary Esther Gutierrez (Frank) and Maureen Middleton (Curt) and Kim Brast (Mark’s widow). Several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her stepson George “Jerry” Showalter, wife Bobbie, her many grand, great and great-great grandchildren.
We would like to thank Kyle Inman, Administrator of Love and Care Assisted Living and all the amazing staff of nurses and caregivers for their excellent care, devotion and all the love they poured out over Mary these past 6 years. They were her family and she loved them all very much.
