Vernon L. Ware, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the age of 80, in Marietta, OH. Born on Christmas Day in 1945, in Troy, WV, he was a beacon of love and generosity to all who knew him.
The son of the late Page and Reba Ware of Cox’s Mills, WV, Vernon grew up with a strong sense of family and community that would become the cornerstone of his life. He spent many hours in the family store, Ware’s Grocery, telling tales and making treasured memories. He shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Helen Ware. Together, they raised two daughters, Andrea (Mike) Brown and Sarah Ware (Paul Travis), who blessed them with grandsons Ryan Martin, Vince Travis, and Gage Brown. Vernon’s joy in life was magnified by these boys, who he supported and cherished with every fiber of his being.
Vernon retired after 32 years of dedicated service at DuPont Washington Works. His work ethic set a remarkable example for his family and colleagues. He formed lifelong friendships through his work, which he valued greatly throughout his retirement.
Vernon’s love for the outdoors was well-known, as he could often be found deer and squirrel hunting, fishing, or mushroom hunting. These activities were more than hobbies; they were a testament to his appreciation for nature and the simple pleasures of life.
A devoted fan of Parkersburg South basketball, Vernon was a familiar face in the stands. He also followed his grandson Ryan’s wrestling career with great interest, from Lubeck, Blennerhassett Middle, Parkersburg South, and Fairmont State University, always offering his unwavering support.
In the kitchen, Vernon’s warmth and love shone brightly as he baked cookies with his grandson Vince. These moments were cherished by both, creating memories that will be held dear forever.
Vernon leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. His brother, Edwin (Jean) Ware, and sister, Anita (Adrain) Adams, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, will remember him for his friendly nature and the generous spirit that he extended to everyone he met.
As we say goodbye to Vernon, we celebrate a life lived with passion, kindness, and an abundance of love. His gentle presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit continues to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
