James L. “Larry” Wise, 86, of Washington passed away February 11, 2026, at Cedar Grove Assisted Living. He was born March 13, 1939, a son to the late James H. and Martha C. Wise (Miller).
Raised in Felicity, OH, Larry earned a chemical engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati. He was employed by DuPont Washington Works, where he worked on plant expansion, safety, and process improvement. His first month on the job, Larry met the love of his life, Connie. They were married at Lubeck United Methodist Church, where they remained active throughout their lives. In retirement, Larry volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. He felt a personal call to “feed the hungry, clothe the naked, provide shelter to the homeless,” believing that generosity returns to us from the God who gives us “full measure” of His grace.
Surviving Larry are his children Tim Wise (Lisa) of Kansas City, Mark Wise (Kimberly) of Greensboro, NC, and Elizabeth Marks (Tim) of Parkersburg; grandchildren Joshua (Joy), Sarah (Hayden), Rachel, Abbey, Aaron, Allison, Sam, and Ben; great-grandchildren Milo, Ben, and Stella, with one more great-granddaughter on the way; several nieces, nephews, and a cousin; two brothers in law; loving caregivers; and beloved pets Curly and Moe.
Along with his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Connie M. Wise (Guinn); and siblings Donald Wise, Betty Schenz, and Barbara Boothby.
A funeral service for Larry will be held Sunday. February 15, at Lubeck United Methodist Church, at 2:30pm. Visitation will be held from 1-2:30pm. Burial will follow at Lubeck Cemetery.
