Larry Dennison McKnight, 79, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away on January 7, 2026, at
Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.
Larry was born on September 17, 1946, in Clarksburg, WV, the second son of the late
John and Geraldine McKnight. He spent his childhood in Harrison and Gilmer Counties
and graduated from Glenville High School in 1964. He was a proud Army veteran,
serving in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart for being wounded in action.
Following his service to our country, Larry returned to Harrison County, where he was a
coal miner for Consolidation Coal Company for 30 years. Upon his retirement he
enjoyed many activities; playing golf, UTV riding, traveling, but his greatest joy came
from attending his granddaughters’ many athletic events and academic ceremonies.
Larry is survived by his wife Tammy of Parkersburg, WV, daughter and son-in-law
Melissa and Curtis Riggs of Bridgeport, WV, granddaughters Bailey Riggs and Emily
Riggs of Fairmont, WV, mother-in-law Gloria Jan Tincher of Bob White, WV, sister-in-law
Linda McKnight of Abilene, TX and several other in-laws, nieces and nephews. Larry
also leaves behind his beloved fur babies Sissy, Buddy, Otis and Emmett.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his older brother, Ron and his
brother by choice, Nolan Hays.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 11 at 3:00 at the Leavitt Funeral
Home, Parkersburg. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 1:00 to 3:00 prior
to the service.
In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to express their condolences by donating to a local
animal shelter or the Wounded Warrior Project.
