Stanton C. “Chip” Knotts Jr., 72, of Parkersburg, died on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center.

He was born on May 1, 1954, in Parkersburg, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, a son of the late Stanton “Stan” C. Knotts Sr. and Mamie A. Thomas Knotts. Stan attended St. Raphael’s Kindergarten and then St. Francis Xavier Grade School from first through eighth grade. While attending there, he met his lifelong best friend and “brother,” Roger. After graduating from St. Francis Xavier Grade School, he attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory Seminary for his freshman and sophomore years. From there, he would attend Parkersburg Catholic High School for his junior and senior years. While attending there, Stan was a member of the football and baseball teams and was a part of the 1970-71 Football Championship team. Stan then graduated from Parkersburg Catholic High School in 1972. He earned a two-year business and accounting degree from Mountain State College.

He worked at the A&P Store during high school and Gooley Distributing while attending college. After college, he worked at the Up Towner Inn as a night auditor and at the State ABCC Store, where he was a manager.

Growing up, Stan attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Parkersburg, where he was a very faithful altar server with his friends and younger brother, Bill. He would also go on to play guitar for the folk mass at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Belpre alongside John Gallagher.

He cherished playing catch and wiffleball in the backyard with his dad, friends, and siblings; being at home with family; being a father and husband; playing music; watching sports; collecting memorabilia and reminiscing about old times. Stan was a dedicated lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds, especially Pete Rose and the Big Red Machine, as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was survived by his wife of 39 years, Robin A. Rush Knotts; one son, William T. “Tank” Knotts (Shauna); two siblings, William K. “Bill” Knotts and Constance L. “Connie” Knotts Dowler (Brent); special “brother”, Roger D. Nedeff (Linda); sister-in-law, Patti Golden; one step-granddaughter, Caitlyn; two nephews, Jamie Golden and Jay Golden (Kathy); one niece, Gretchen A. Dowler Brookover (Logan); one great-niece, Kylie Golden; six very special cousins: Patti, Sue, Steve, Ann, Tim and Kim; and his special furry friend, “Louis”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Simon A. Knotts and Carrie E. Marshall Knotts; maternal grandparents, William J. Thomas Sr. and Louise M. Hebdo Thomas; several aunts and uncles; a special cousin, Jane C. Archer; in-laws, James E. Rush and Gloria P. Gould Rush; and brother-in-law, Arthur “Butch” Golden.

Memorial services at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church will be announced at a later date at the convenience of the family. Burial of cremated remains will conclude at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
