William “Bill” Lucas

Bill was born on January 22, 1945, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to the late William Clair Lucas and Doris Elizabeth Whitlach Lucas. He grew up with strong values, a steady spirit, and a deep appreciation for the simple blessings of life. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1964, and from an early age he learned the importance of perseverance, responsibility, and honest labor. Those qualities would guide him throughout his life and shape the example he set for his family and all who knew him.

Bill spent his life working with his hands and caring for the land he loved. He was self-employed as a farmer, contractor, and tractor mechanic, and he took great pride in every task he undertook. Of all the things he worked on, he was most passionate about his International Harvester tractors. He loved to restore a beat-up rusty tractor and bring it back to its original glory. His skill, patience, and attention to detail were matched by his appreciation for craftsmanship and tradition. As Bill would say, “If it ain’t red, leave it in the shed.” That saying reflected not only his love for tractors, but also the humor and personality that those around him cherished.

Bill was a man of deep Christian faith. He was strong in his beliefs and lived them through service, song, and steadfast commitment to the Lord. He attended Marrtown Road Church of Christ, where he served faithfully as a Deacon and an Elder. He later attended Hopewell Church of Christ, continuing to worship and serve with the same humble spirit. He was also a song leader at both churches and around the community, sharing his love of praise and worship with others. His voice and his devotion were gifts that blessed many, and his faith was a guiding light throughout his life.

Family was at the center of Bill’s heart. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Della Lucas, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and devotion. To gether they built a home filled with faith, hard work, and enduring love. He is also survived by his four children, Rebecca Ann Lucas(Michael), Jennifer Dawn Dix (Sean), Christie L. Moyers (Jeff), and William Matthew Lucas( Ashley). Bill cherished each of his children and took great joy in their lives, accomplishments, and families.

He is also survived by his siblings, Harold Scott Lucas and Lois Lucas Hanlon (Don). He leaves behind a beloved family of grandchildren, including Zaccary Lucas (Anna), Ashley Hannah (Cody), Lindsey Blair (Zach), Christopher Cox (Kenade), Brandyn Glaze (Leanne), Morgan Amos, Jeffrey Moyers (Nicole), Braynt Lucas, and Louie Lucas. He was blessed with many great-grandchildren, including Braylen, Remington, Blayze, Brooklyn, Beau, Shyla, Yvonne, Aruna, Grayson, Kyler, Waverly, and Jenson. Bill loved his family dearly, and he lit up whenever he spoke about his children and grandbabies. His quiet but fun personality, his gentle humor, and his obvious pride in those he loved will be remembered always.

Bill will be remembered for the life he lived with humility, faithfulness, and strength. He was a man who worked hard, worshiped sincerely, and loved deeply. He was loved by so many, and he made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His love for farming, building, and singing songs of praise to our Lord was evident in all he did. Though he is gone from sight, he will never be left behind in the hearts of those who loved him.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by loved ones who went before him in the faith. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior. Bill is singing praises in heaven for sure, and the family and friends who remain will hold tightly to the memories, lessons, and love he leaves behind. His life was a testimony to Christian faith, family devotion, and steadfast character, and his memory will continue to bless all who knew him.

Service will be Friday 11:00 AM at the Hopewell Church of Christ with Marvin Green officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg.
