In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Riggs

November 1, 1938 – October 15, 2026

A Life Cherished, A Love Remembered

With heavy hearts and a lifetime of treasured memories, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Riggs. Barb was a devoted wife to the late Ronald Riggs, dearly loved by her daughters Debi (Jeff) Maynard and Pam Riggs, and cherished by her grandsons Alan (Megan) and Kiah (Bree) Maynard. She was blessed with her great grandchildren Tres, Zoey, Trig, Cohen and Kyah, and 7 bonus great grandchildren. She loved and adored them fully, and they loved their Nini, as Barbara was called by all of her “grands”.

Barbara will be remembered with immense love and affection by those whose lives she touched. She was often described as “one of a kind” and “extraordinary” for her positive attitude and beautiful, generous spirit. She was loyal – her lifelong friend Karen Boles has been a part of her story for 80 years and several others whom she was still in touch with but neither did she suffer fools lightly, which only lead to further admiration by those who gained her friendship and trust. Laughter came easy to her but she was much quicker witted than her calm nature and gentle smile gave away. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the countless precious and precocious moments that will forever be treasured. Stories around the dinner table of a day at work, whether at Vienna Pharmacy in the 1970’s or at AstraZeneca in 2000’s, were lively and often involved pranks. Neighborhood Bridge Nights or family Christmas Eves and cookouts were never dull, and for certain, part of that was due to Barb being involved.

At the core of all of her best qualities was her underlying strength. It lifted the love and sense of humor that carried her through the challenges of surviving a stroke at the age of 66. She relearned or taught herself how to walk assisted, speak clearly, write, nearly everything again, and always with patience, an open mind, and usually a giggle or two. Barbara lived the lesson that nothing is so great or troublesome that it can’t be handled with faith, humor and grace if you are surrounded by those who love and care for you. She was the pillar of strength in our family.

Although our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that her love and our memories of her will remain with us always.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Sr. and Myrtle Snider, her two brothers and four sisters, and her dearest husband.

Reunited now with her beloved Ron, together forever.

Rest peacefully, Barbara.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00pm at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with John Smith officiating. Entombment will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00pm until service time.
