Robert Reeder

Robert “Bob” Gale Reeder, 71, of Vienna, WV, passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2026, surrounded by his family after an extended battle with cancer.

He was born in Parkersburg, WV, on April 26, 1955, to the late Robert Reeder and Macel (Jarvis) Riel.

Bob worked for over 25 years at Corning Glass, later known as Schott Scientific Glass, until the facility closed in 2005. He worked in production and as a union representative, which was his proudest contribution and something he carried with him long after the plant closed.

Bob was always willing to help, never shy about sharing his opinion, and used a plethora of colorful language. He loved telling stories about his younger and rowdier days, of which there were plenty.

He could often be found in his favorite recliner working on a crossword puzzle and watching Law & Order. He loved to read, favoring anything involving the Mafia, gangsters, and outlaws. When he wasn’t home, he was often making trips to Dollar General whether he really needed anything or not. He had a way of making friends with cashiers, drive-thru workers, and just about anyone he saw regularly.

He also loved animals, even if he grumbled every time his wife rescued another cat, which would always end up curled up in his lap. In his later years, the Budweiser was traded for Pepsi, the neatly ironed pants for comfortable sweats, and he became known as “Poppi” to the people who loved him the most.

Bob is survived by his loving spouse, Kathryn Reeder of Vienna, WV; daughter, Amanda Reeder (Dave) of Vienna, WV; son, Tait Hackett of California; stepdaughter, Rebecca Hatfield (Shawn) of Timberlake, NC; grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Dave and June Riel, and one half-sister, Patty Wolfe.

Cremation Services entrusted to the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Online condolences may be sent to the family @www.leavittfuneralhome.com
