Margaret Ann Black, formerly of Parkersburg, WV, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Sterling, VA, at the age of 97.
Margaret Ann was born December 23, 1928, in Brimfield, OH. As a child, her family moved where there were jobs and settled in Parkersburg around 1936. She graduated from Parkersburg High School in June 1946.
She was married to Wayne E Black for 34 years until his death in 1981. Wayne was in banking first at Parkersburg National and later Wood County Bank where he served as President. They raised their children in Parkersburg and were active members of the community. Margaret Ann moved to Virginia in 2000.
Margaret Ann was a talented seamstress making clothing, costumes, and crafts for herself, family and friends. She enjoyed reading everything, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and playing cards and board games with family and friends. Some of her favorite trips were to historic places and the beach. She dedicated her life to taking care of and supporting efforts benefiting children. She would always strive to do her best to help anyone who needed a hand.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clark and Edyth (Currey) Howes, brother Charles, teenage son Steven, two infant sons, and an infant granddaughter. She is survived by son David, daughters Kathy, Mary Ellen, and Dianna, grandsons Daniel, Matthew, Andrew, and Damian, granddaughters Sarah, Rebecca, and Ashley, and six great-grandchildren who will always remember how much she loved all of them.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9th from 4 pm to 6 pm at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg. Services will be held on Saturday, October 10th, at 11 AM at Leavitt’s with burial following in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens.
