Rebecca Irene “Becky” Smith (Prewett), 74, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at her home on September 8, 2026, at 2:18 a.m., with her beloved husband, Mike, by her side.

Becky was born on May 19, 1952, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to Doug and Emma Prewett. She grew up in Parkersburg and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1971. Although she moved to Wake Forest, North Carolina, in 1994, Parkersburg was always “home” to her. Every chance they had, Mike and Becky made the trip back to West Virginia, where a piece of her heart always remained.

She married her high school sweetheart, Mike, and together they shared 55 years of marriage, building a life centered around love, faith, family, and an enduring commitment to one another.

She spent much of her working life in healthcare, caring for and helping others. While living in Parkersburg, she worked at Camden Clark Hospital for 10 years. After moving to North Carolina, she continued her healthcare career at WakeMed Hospital, working in both the Operating Room and with the General Surgery team until her retirement in 2020.

She enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a loving and faithful wife to Mike, a wonderful mother to Kathy and Michael, and a loving grandmother who took great pride in supporting her grandchildren and their interests.

Her faith was deeply important to her. She faithfully watched Pastor Billy of Shiloh Family Ministries online every Sunday, and Camp Kerr Lake held a special place in her heart. One of her final wishes was to return to the lake and hear Pastor Billy preach in person one more time. On September 6, surrounded by her family, Becky was blessed to fulfill that wish. That day became even more meaningful when Becky and Mike renewed their wedding vows, celebrating 55 years of marriage and the life they built together.

When she wasn’t enjoying time at the lake, she loved visiting Pine Knoll Shores and Morehead City. After spending the day at the beach, she especially enjoyed having seafood at one of her favorite places, Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant in Morehead City.

In the final chapter of her life, Becky faced cancer with tremendous strength and courage. She fought incredibly hard throughout her journey, surrounded by those who meant the most to her.

Becky is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Mike Smith; daughter, Kathy Smith; son, Michael Smith and his wife, Amber Smith; grandchildren, Emma Smith, Doug Smith, Bekah Smith, Stephanie Smith, Kamiliana Jones. She leaves behind a cousin, Bruce Winans and his wife Becky Winans. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Paisley Sue, who held a very special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doug and Emma Prewett; her grandparents, Lou and Ethel Prewett and Guy and Garnet Greathouse; and her beloved uncle and aunt, Bob and Mary Winans.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 6-8pm at Bright Funeral Home.

Becky will then make one final journey home to West Virginia, where she will be entrusted to Leavitt Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 6-8pm.

A funeral service will by held on Friday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Evergreen North Cemetery.

Becky leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family forever shaped by her love. She will be remembered for her strength, her faith, the love she shared with Mike, the pride she took in her children and grandchildren, and the way she held her family together.

After 74 years of life, 55 years of marriage, and a lifetime of memories, Becky has made her final journey home to the West Virginia hills she always loved.

Rest peacefully, Becky.

Your family will carry your love with them always, until we meet again. ❤️
