Steven B. Johnson, 71 of Marietta, Ohio died at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio on June 22, 2026. He was born in Marietta, Ohio on June 14, 1955, and was the son of the late Franklin Eugene Johnson and Wanda Marilee Casto Burks. He graduated from Warren High School and attended the All Ohio Boy’s Band for two years, playing the saxophone. Steve was a U.S. Army Veteran. Following his service he worked on barges on the river, for O,Ames and for the TCI cable. He then joined the 1092nd West Virginia Army National Guard, served for 32 years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. He served in Iraqi Freedom with the 1092nd from 2003-2004. Following his retirement he worked for Leavitt Funeral Home for over 20 years. He faithfully attended Calvary Community Church for many years where he worked with the bus ministry. Steve was a man that led by example in being faithful to church. He was a member of the Reno Christian Church where he played sax for worship service. Steve was a devoted family man that loved gathering for holidays to see all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Ohio State fan. He was a loved husband, father, papaw and great-papaw!
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Deborah Collins Johnson, 2 daughters, Deborah Donze of Vienna, WV, Amber (Jeremy) Flinn of Marietta, Ohio, son, Andy (Sonya) Johnson of Little Hocking, Ohio, grandchildren, Jeremiah (Kayla) Donze, Faith Donze, Lydia (Asher) Bice, Luke Johnson, Ava Flinn, Connor Flinn, Emmaline Flinn and his great-grandchildren, Arabella, Elijah, Amaya Donze, Ellionna Donze, Wrenley Bice. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Mary (Kirk) Malone, Brenda Johnson, brother, Tim (Tammy) Johnson; stepbrothers, Carl (Jody) Burks, Sonny Burks, Clayton (Tammy) Burks and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Roger Burks, and stepsisters, Diane Cooper and Robin Turner.
Services will be on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Teddy Tackett officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and one hour prior to services. Military services will be conducted following the services by the VFW and American Legion of Marietta.
