“Cricket” Cowan
Marion Vivian “Cricket” Cowan, 91, of Mineral Wells, formerly of Newark, Wirt County, passed away April 23, 2026 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born June 20, 1934 in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Alfred and Lillian Ballengee Fought.
Mrs. Cowan was the owner/operator of Taylor’s Market and previously the Fought General Store. She was an outdoors person and an animal lover, having several rescue dogs.
Surviving is her daughter, Cindy Brock (Dave) of Williamstown, twin sister Marjorie Mayes of Newark, brother Lloyd Fought (Dorothy) of Newark, grandchildren: Jessica Martinsen and Alex Martinsen of Austin, TX, sister-in-law Frances Fought and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Cricket was preceded in death by a brother Frankie Fought and sisters: Pribble Thompson and Eloise Weaver.
Graveside services will be Tuesday 2PM at the Fought Family Cemetery, Newark with Pastor Joe Hunt officiating. A time of gathering for family and friends will be Monday 5-7PM and Tuesday 11AM-1PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
