Harold Kerby, 84, passed into Jesus’ arms early morning on April 4, 2026. He was called Jake by his friends or Harry. But his favorite name was Dad, Pops, Popaw or Poppy by his family.
Jake had a deep love for his Lord and was known for his Christian walk. He was a member of Southside Southern Baptist Church in South Parkersburg, WV.
Jake was born on January 22,1942 to the late Allie and Lucille Sitton Kerby, in Van, WV. He graduated in 1959 from Van High. He married Janice Charles and had two daughters. They later divorced.
He served in the US Navy for 5 years during the Cuban Missile Crisis then during the Vietnam Era. He joined the US Air Force serving in Thailand and Texas for 4 years.
While in Texas he married Patricia Saxson, also in the Air Force. After leaving the military he and Pat moved to WV where he tried coal mining. Deciding he wasn’t suited to mining they moved to Michigan, Pat’s home state, where he drove trucks for different companies. Jake eventually became a car hauler and provided for his family for many years delivering cars to locations in the Eastern US, retiring in 2004. He became bored and drove a tour bus for Dean Trailways in Lansing Michigan. Pat preceded him in death on April 6, 2006.
Jake is survived by his sister Tammy Kerby of Savannah, Georgia, his children, Anicia and Jerilyn Kerby of Foster, WV, LeeAnn Kerby Brzak (Bernie), Robyn Ferguson (Bubby), of Lansing, Michigan and Allen Kerby (Jennifer) of Eaton Rapids, Michigan and grandchildren Jared Fowler, David Ferrell, Stephen Ferrell, Jacob Kerby Bennett, Katie Brzak, Krista Rhodes (Jake), Austin Kerby (Amy), Brandon Kerby. Also, great grandsons Brayden Brzak and Griffen Rhodes.
Following Pat’s passing Jake met and married Sherry Justice and moved to Parkersburg. He drove motor coaches for Pioneer Trails. The couple formed Kerby Tours and met many wonderful friends on their adventures. Jake was proud of Sherry’s family, John Justice (Christy) and Joe Justice (Lori) and grandchildren Kade, Jackson and Matthew. Jake was adored by his 4-legged fur babies Lacey, Sydney, Waldo, Sam, and Molly
Funeral Services will be held at Southside Baptist Church on, Wednesday April 8, 2026. Viewing will begin at 11 AM, services will be led by Pastor David Somerville at 1PM. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Leavitt Funeral Home
