Kimberly Jean Thompson, known affectionately as Kim by those who had the pleasure of her vibrant company, embarked on her final journey on December 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a little bit of mischief. Born on December 16, 1965, in Parkersburg, WV, where she also took her last breath, Kim’s life was a testament to her enduring spirit and her ability to find humor in the everyday.
Born to Eugene and the late Annette Moats, Kim was the ringleader of a loving troupe that included her sister Christina Perez, and was a mother whose heart knew no bounds, leaving behind her daughter Arika Moats. She also left her mark on her beloved granddaughter, Gabrianna Moats, who will no doubt inherit her grandmother’s knack for finding the funny side of life. Though her daughter Sarah Neptune had preceded her in death, the stories of their shared laughter will continue to echo. Kim’s nephew, Ian Perez, and a lively bunch of cousins, Roberta, Jameel, Jessica, Inara and Aisha, will remember her as the life of every family gathering.
Her love for WVU mountaineer football was only rivaled by her passion for her two Pomeranian pups, Piper and Kona, who were her fluffy sidekicks in all her adventures. Kim was a master at the art of the deal, always sniffing out the best bargains. Her laughter was a frequent soundtrack at Phase 10 games, where she was both a formidable opponent with her skip cards and the evening’s entertainment.
Kim’s legacy is one of joy and perseverance, a reminder to all who knew her that courage can be wrapped in a smile and that the best way to face life’s challenges is with a chuckle. As we bid farewell to Kimberly Jean Thompson, let’s not say goodbye but rather, “See you later,” because a personality as spirited as hers is sure to be cracking jokes in a better place, likely bargaining for a better pair of wings. Her laughter will resonate with us always, a cherished echo of a life well-lived and a woman dearly loved.
Special thanks to wonderful friends Jennifer, Leah, Beth, Amy, Martin, Hannah, Sue, and many others, as well as the Camden Clark Memorial Hospital CVU staff for their care and compassion
