Raymond Monroe, 85, of Washington, WV passed away on November 18 at the Camden Clark Hospital.
He is survived by the love of his life, Marcia Farnsworth Jonas Monroe after 40 years of marriage. Also surviving is his son Robert Monroe, step-sons Rick Jonas and Jeff Jonas, daughter-in-law Sandy Monroe, grandsons Sean (Matt), Michael (Brianna), granddaughter Heidi Nazar (Jeff), great-granddaughters Madison and Delilah Nazar, and niece Julie Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents Chalmer and Beulah Monroe, his son Chris Monroe, brother Chalmer Monroe, and step-son Billy Jonas.
He was a surveyor for the WV Department of Highways for 37 years and covered 7 counties. He loved the work and enjoyed the last day of work as much as his first day. He had many stories to tell about the jobs and people he encountered. Raymond and Marcia spent many years fishing at the Outer Banks and made life long friends there. They also spent 23 winters in Florida fishing in Sarasota Bay and went on a few fishing charters. They made many life long friends there and shared fishing stories, some of which were not fully truthful. Raymond also enjoyed hunting deer and wild game, and believed if you don’t eat it, you don’t kill it. He took great pride in taking care of the lawn on his John Deere tractor and was always ready to help a neighbor any way he could. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Marietta Beagle Club, and Vienna Masonic Lodge.
Special thanks to the nurses who cared for him in the ICU and 4th floor acute care, and also Housecalls Hospice for their care and support.
A private Memorial service for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, make donations to St. John United Methodist Church, 3911 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, WV 26105.
