John Dean Thomas Jr., 71 of Parkersburg, formerly of Myrtle Beach, SC, suddenly passed away October 7, 2026 at his residence. He was born April 14, 1955 in Darlington, SC, a son of the late John D. and Mary Haines Thomas.
He graduated from McCallie in Chattanooga, TN Class of 1973
JT loved his wife, his family, his friends, and his dog. Some of his other favorite things were KFC, comfy novelty pajama pants, black coffee and popcorn. He enjoyed watching his westerns, The Civil War and writing poetry. He also kept a very detailed diary (if IYKYK) and he made the best chicken bog!!
Surviving is his loving wife of 32 years, Sherri Lewis Thomas, two sons: John D. “Trey” Thomas III of Florence, SC and Charles Thad Thomas (Heather) of Conway, SC, two sisters: Linda Dell Nesmith of Sarasota, FL and Junie Hewell of Watkinsville, GA, three grandchildren: Wyatt, Ronin and Thea Thomas and special niece and nephew Amy Boyette and Will Marsh.
A memorial gathering and Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 1, 2026 at the Leavitt Reception Center at 620 Avery Street in Parkersburg from 1-4PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Humane Society of Parkersburg, 530 29th St. Parkersburg, WV 26101.
