Judy Elaine Hogsett, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, passed away April 25, 2026 after a hard fight with complications following a fall. She was 84 years old.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Paul, children Chris Hogsett of Davisville, WV; Jim Hogsett (Michelle) of Zanesville, OH; Jill Broadwater (Charlie) of Fairmont, WV, and Noel Clinton-Dess (Walter) of Morgantown, WV; Three grandchildren: Aaron, Thomas, and Natalie Broadwater; Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Garnette Foutty; her brother, David Foutty, a daughter, Susan Hogsett, and grandson, David Hogsett Moore.
She was born August 24, 1941. She was the eldest of Harley and Garnette’s seven children. She was a 1959 graduate of Wirt County High School.
She work at C&P Telephone before her children were born. After which, she was a stay-at-home mom until her daughters enter Junior High. She then worked at So-Fro Fabrics, JoAnn Fabrics, and Walmart.
She was active in the WV CEOS organization for more than 60 years serving as an officer many times at both the state and county level. She was twice selected to be the Belle of Wood County for the Glenville Folk Festival.
Judy was a Christian, and a longtime member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church where she was active in the UMW organization. She taught Sunday school for many years. Following her move to Morgantown, Judy joined the Cornerstone C&MA Church.
She was a talented seamstress and baker. She sewed both daughters’ wedding dresses and her rolls and Christmas cookies were legendary amongst family and friends. Judy found great joy in creating handmade cards and sharing them with family and friends. Her thoughtful notes touched countless lives, and many lovingly referred to her generous habit as a true card ministry.
Judy was a kind and generous woman. Generous with her time, her resources and her love. She will most certainly be fondly remembered by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
