Phyllis Ann Wharton, 77, of Washington, WV went peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday February 4, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on August 21, 1948 in Vienna, WV a daughter of the late Henry and Mildred (Fleming) Schott.
She graduated from Mountain State Business College with a Secretarial Science Degree and began her career working at FMC, City of Parkersburg Police Department, and retired from DuPont. Phyllis went back to college at West Virginia University- Parkersburg and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her passions in life was the Lord, saving injured animals, and watching the wildlife on the farm. Her steady companion through her illness was her dog Lily, who stayed by her side and watched over her. She loved her gardening and flowers, and was a member of Hopewell Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of forty-six years Anthony Thomas Wharton; three children Derran Winans (Shawn), , Brenda Lemar (Tony), and Dianna Hively (Matt); six grandchildren Mandy Dix (Austin), Catrina Smith (Jeremy), Jacob Hively (Lauren), Jocelyn Brown (George), Jacynda Walraven (Jaedon), and Megan Bickham (Will); and sixteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a great grandchild Keegan.
Services will be Monday 11:00 AM at Hopewell Church of Christ with Marvin Green officiating. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery.
