Betty Jean DeLancey, 91, of Parkersburg, passed away October 31, 2026.
She was born in 1935, a daughter of the late James E. Reese and Mary B. (Piggott) Reese.
Born in Parkersburg, Betty lived nearly her entire life here, where she also passed away, apart from time spent during her husband’s military service and his work in Canton, Ohio. She married Guy DeLancey in 1955, and they shared 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2007. Betty worked for the Wood County Board of Education from 1972 to 1996 as a school secretary at Emerson School and was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church in Vienna, West Virginia.
She is survived by her children, Roger DeLancey (Joyce), and Mary G. Smith (Greg); grandchildren, Joshua Smith and his wife Lauren, and their daughter Vivian; Brian Smith and his wife Katie, and their son Liam; brother David L. Reese and his wife Pat; sister-in-law Karen Reese; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Guy DeLancey, and two brothers, James(Ed) Reese and William (Bill)Reese.
There will be no services for Betty. Her remains will be cremated and inurned at Evergreen North Cemetery beside her husband.
