Henry Wade Hensley, born October 13, 1948, in Charleston, West Virginia, passec
away June 22, 2026. He was the son of the late Wade and Lillian Hensley. He is
survived by his three children – Matthew (Tonya), Benjamin (Rachel), Lindsey (Josh)
and grandfather to seven grandchildren. Also leaving behind his sister, Eva Beth
Faulkner (Bill) and their four children, along with several cousins.
After graduating from seminary in Kentucky, he enjoyed his time as pastor of severa
churches throughout Kansas and West Virginia. Having completed his undergraduate
degree at Alderson Broaddus, he was given the opportunity to serve as Dean of Men at
his alma mater. Later having the honor of serving his country as a United States Navy
Chaplain, where he served for 26 years.
Henry was smart and curious and found joy in sharing what he learned with anyone wha
would listen. He loved sports and history. He customized golf clubs and the price for
those clubs was friendship and time sharing stories during the making of those clubs
He was an avid reader who had so many books that he was able to share his books
with friends and family, but not without a check-out system.
After retirement, Henry was living in Rock Hill, SC when he took a vacation to
Pocohontas County, WV with his Nelson cousins. The time spent and the rekindling of
those childhood friendships was so enjoyable that he decided to move to Belpre, H
where he spent the remainder of this days.
He especially loved spending time with his Nelson family (Lynn, David, Albert, and Jim
Nelson, and Sue Thomas (Nelson) and their families at ‘The Garden’ visiting
reminiscing, and just enjoying one another’s company,
He will be remembered by many and laid to rest with full military honors at West Virginia
National Cemetery at Grafton, WV, on July 13″ at 2:00 p.m.
