Donald Smith

Donald Eugene Smith, born October 16, 1945 in Reedsville Ohio. He passed away May 6, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and quiet strength that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Donald, known as “Don”, was the kindest and most selfless man-a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend. He shared a deep and enduring love with his late wife, Linda Kay Smith, whom he adored beyond measure. Their bond was a guiding light throughout his life.

He is lovingly remembered by his three children, each of whom believed they were his favorite: Mary Male (Mike) of Athens, Ohio; Frank Smith of Orlando, Florida; and Mistie Gaston Smith (Brian) of Belleville, West Virginia.

Donald’s greatest pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren: Lacy Male, Michael Male, Brent Gaston, Andrew Gaston, Ashley Cunningham (Zack), and his great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Male. Nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with them-sharing stories, laughter, and simple moments that became cherished memories.

He is also survived by his sisters, Phyllis Washington and Judy Davis, and his brother, Marion Smith (Dion), along with many nieces and nephews who will remember his warmth and steady presence.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Hazel (Barber) Smith and Charles Smith.

Donald proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and later dedicated many years as a hardworking oil field worker before retiring. In retirement, he found joy in working on projects with his family, spending time at his family farm, as well as hunting and fishing-pastimes that reflected his love of the outdoors and life’s simple pleasures.

He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and the quiet way he made the world better for those around him.

We find comfort in imagining him now at peace, reunited with his beloved wife, Linda Kay Smith, enjoying a hot cup of black coffee and a cigarette beneath the open sky.

His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held, and he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife.

There will be no visitation or services. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
