Denise Ellen Stone, known lovingly to family and friends as Neese, passed away on April 17, 2026, at her home in Little Hocking, Ohio, at the age of 72.
Born on August 1, 1953, in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, Denise lived a life marked by humor, curiosity, and a spirited presence that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She carried herself with a quick wit and lively personality, often bringing laughter into everyday moments. Those closest to her will remember her as fun and quirky, with an energy and individuality that were unmistakable. Neese was the kind of person who could turn any conversation into a memorable exchange and bring a smile to those around her with her humor and unique outlook.
She was preceded in death by her father, John E. Stone, her mother, Bertha C. Stone, and her sister, Deborah Greer. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Mullinnix, her sister, Dawn L. Sundquist, her daughter, Sarah Stephens (Joe), her granddaughter, Lauren Battin (Brodie), nephew Jimmy Sundquist, various other nephews and cousins, and brother, John Stone.
Neese’s favorite scripture passage was Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” She is now experiencing this truth to the full.
She will be truly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her well.
We will gather to celebrate Neese’s life on May 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church on 23rd Street in Parkersburg, WV. Come when you can, leave when you must. All are welcome.
